Comment Policy (Web-Social)
1. Introduction: Scope of Application
With the aim of promoting pluralism and strengthening public discourse, grland provides visitors and users with the ability to comment and interact. These functionalities are offered uniformly across the main website and web applications of grland, as well as through the official accounts maintained by the Company on social media platforms (including Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, YouTube, WhatsApp, etc.). The purpose of these features is to enable the free exchange of views and the active participation of users in shaping current affairs. It is expressly clarified that commenting and interaction constitute optional functionalities provided by grland and do not represent a fundamental or acquired right of the user. grland supports freedom of expression, subject to the strict condition that participation is carried out with respect, responsibility, and full compliance with applicable law. The submission of a comment or any form of interaction automatically implies that the user has read, understood, and unconditionally accepted these rules, as well as the General Terms of Use.
2. Code of Conduct and Non-Acceptable Content
grland encourages constructive dialogue; however, freedom of expression is not unlimited and ceases where the rights of third parties or the law are violated. In order to ensure a safe environment, grland does not accept and promptly removes content that falls within the following categories:
Illegal and Violent Content: The publication of material that is illegal, threatening, terrorist, or extremist is strictly prohibited. The promotion of fascist, Nazi, or other forms of extremist ideological propaganda, as well as content that incites violence or encourages acts of self-harm, is not permitted.
Hate Speech: Any comment that promotes discrimination, hostility, or hatred against individuals or groups on the basis of race, nationality, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or disability is prohibited.
Violation of Personality and Privacy: The publication of personal data of third parties (doxing) without their consent, defamatory statements against natural or legal persons, and any content that infringes the honor or reputation of any individual are prohibited.
Protection of Minors: The targeting, exposure, or harassment of minors is strictly prohibited, as is the publication of material that may be considered harmful to them.
Misinformation and Spam: Impersonation of authorities or other persons, the dissemination of false or misleading information (fake news), mass posting of identical content, unsolicited advertising, and commercial links are not permitted.
Technical Restrictions: Comments written exclusively in CAPITAL LETTERS (Caps Lock) indicating aggressiveness, the use of “Greeklish”, and the posting of “spoilers” (plot disclosures) without prior warning are prohibited.
3. Moderation, Sanctions, and User Bans
grland reserves the absolute and unconditional right to regulate, restrict, or disable commenting functionality. Due to the large volume of data and the continuous flow of comments, grland is neither obliged nor technically able to exercise continuous preventive monitoring (pre-moderation) of all content. However, it intervenes reactively whenever a violation is identified. In cases of serious or repeated violations, grland may impose a temporary or permanent ban on the user. A ban may be imposed, indicatively, in the following cases:
- Systematic provocative, aggressive, or destabilizing behavior (trolling) that disrupts public discourse.
- Harassment, bullying, or threats against other users.
- Repeated offensive, ironic, or defamatory content directed at moderators, the editorial team, or the Company as a whole, where such conduct exceeds the limits of good-faith and substantiated criticism.
- Theft or impersonation of the identity of third parties.
- Creation of new accounts or use of alternative profiles in order to circumvent a prior ban.
- Use of a username or profile image containing hate symbols, extremist references, or offensive material.
The decision to delete a comment or ban a user is taken exclusively by grland and does not give rise to any right of appeal, compensation, or reinstatement.
4. Disclaimer and Legal Position
It is emphasized in the clearest terms that every comment, opinion, or reaction published on grland’s platforms reflects solely the views of the user who submitted it. Such content does not represent, reflect, or bind grland, its management, collaborators, or editorial team. The mere visibility of a comment does not constitute acceptance, approval, or endorsement of its content by the Company. grland provides interaction services “as is”, without any warranty, and bears no liability for any direct or indirect damage, moral harm, or other consequence that may arise from the reading or use of third-party content. The user bears sole civil and criminal responsibility for the content they publish. Where grland is required to pay compensation or legal costs due to a user’s violation, the user is obliged to fully indemnify the Company for any direct or indirect loss.
5. Social Media Rules and Data Protection
grland’s presence on social media platforms is governed additionally by the respective terms of use of each platform (Facebook, Instagram, Google/YouTube, X, etc.), which operate as independent data controllers. Users should be aware that these pages are public and that any information they post is visible to the general public.
Processing of Statistical Data (Insights): As page administrator, grland receives exclusively anonymous and aggregated statistical data from social media platforms, which do not allow the identification of natural persons by us. These data are processed on the basis of legitimate interest for the improvement of content and include:
- Demographic data (age groups, gender, geographic region).
- Engagement metrics (likes, shares, comments, video views).
- Overall reach and time spent.
It is noted that the platforms themselves process user data for their own commercial purposes, using cookies and tracking technologies, a process over which grland has no control. For the exercise of your rights under the GDPR (access, erasure, etc.) relating to platform operations, you must contact the respective social media providers directly.
6. Submission of Material and Confidentiality of Communications
The submission of any material (text, image, video) to grland, whether publicly or via messages, constitutes the user’s explicit consent for its use and publication by the Company, without any claim to compensation. The user warrants that they hold the intellectual property rights to the submitted material. However, direct private communication with grland (via email or inbox/DM) is protected by the principle of confidentiality. The disclosure, reproduction, or sharing with third parties of the content of private communications (e.g. via screenshots) is strictly prohibited without the Company’s prior written consent, except where disclosure is required by law or by competent authorities.
7. Editorial and Administrative Freedom
grland exercises its editorial, journalistic, and administrative functions within the framework of freedom of expression and information, as enshrined in Article 11 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union and applicable national and European law. The selection, presentation, organization, modification, or removal of content, as well as the regulation or deactivation of commenting and interaction functionalities, constitute an expression of grland’s editorial and business freedom and do not amount to censorship, restriction of rights, or violation of the freedom of expression of third parties. grland is not obliged to provide equal space, equal visibility, or permanent hosting of opinions, comments, or user-generated content and reserves the right to define the terms and limits of participation in the public discourse it hosts.
8. Absence of a General Monitoring Obligation and Limitation of Liability
In accordance with the applicable legal framework, and in particular Regulation (EU) 2022/2065 (Digital Services Act – DSA) and Presidential Decree 131/2003 (transposing Directive 2000/31/EC), grland, in its capacity as a hosting or intermediary service provider, is not subject to a general obligation to monitor the information it transmits or stores, nor to actively seek facts or circumstances indicating illegal activity. Due to the actual volume of comments and the technical nature of social media platforms, continuous, preventive, and systematic monitoring of all third-party content is objectively impossible. Consequently, grland bears no liability for unlawful or offensive third-party content unless it has obtained “actual knowledge” of its existence. Liability may arise only where grland is specifically and duly notified (through the notice procedure) of illegal content and fails to act promptly to remove or disable access to it. The mere presence of a comment on the website or social media platforms, without prior valid notice to the administrators, does not give rise to civil or criminal liability for the Company. Users who consider themselves affected must follow the prescribed reporting procedure, providing sufficient identifying information to activate the Company’s duty of care.
9. Reporting Violations
grland relies on community cooperation to maintain the quality of dialogue. If you identify content that violates these rules, you may submit a report by following these steps:
- Primarily use the “Report” function of the respective social media platform, where applicable.
- Contact grland via email at info@grland.com or via message, providing the URL, a screenshot, and a brief description.
The Company evaluates reports on a priority basis and takes the necessary actions, ensuring the anonymity of the reporting party vis-à-vis third parties.
Response Time and Handling of Reports
grland reviews each valid and sufficiently substantiated report without undue delay, taking into account the nature, severity, context, and potential impact of the reported content.
The assessment and adoption of measures are carried out on a priority basis and do not entail an obligation for immediate action within a specific timeframe. Response time may vary depending on the volume of reports, technical complexity, the need for legal assessment, or cooperation with competent authorities. The non-immediate removal of content does not constitute acceptance, approval, or endorsement by grland, nor does it establish liability, provided that no specific and adequate notice has been submitted in accordance with these rules and the applicable legal framework.
10. Final Provisions
Amendment of Terms: grland reserves the right to amend, update, or repeal part or all of these Terms of Use and Commenting Rules at any time, without prior notice, in order to adapt them to legal or technological developments. Visitors/users are required to review this page regularly for any changes. Continued use of the services and interaction after any amendment constitutes unconditional acceptance of the revised terms.
No Waiver: Any delay or failure by grland to exercise any of its rights, or tolerance of a breach of these rules, shall not constitute a waiver of such rights nor acceptance of the breach.
Severability: If any provision of these rules is held to be invalid, unlawful, or unenforceable by a competent court, such invalidity shall apply only to that provision and shall not affect the validity, legality, or enforceability of the remaining provisions, which shall remain in full force and effect.
Governing Law & Jurisdiction: These rules are governed by and interpreted in accordance with Greek law (and European Union law). Any dispute arising from the application of these rules or the use of commenting services shall fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Athens.
